Cum îți doreai, cu ochii numai pe foaie,

Să poți afla de ce tremură așa.

Spune-i că nu-i o poetă expertă,

Că ai simțit-o din cum se luptau propozițiile,

C-ai auzit, ascuns de tine, plesnindu-i corsetul,

De parcă-avea doar puterea unui copil.

C-aproape ți-a fost milă simțind atâtea.

Spune-i o – Spune-i – Nu te mai chinui,

Inima i s-ar frânge, de-ar ști-o.

Mai apoi tu și eu am rămâne tăcute.

Spune-i că noaptea s-a terminat

Mai înainte de-a se fi încheiat.

Că orologiul bătrân va fi suspinat „E ziuă!”

Că tu erai somnoroasă

Și te rugai s-ajungi odată la capăt.

Ce te-ar împiedeca a i-o spune?

Spune-i cum te-a sigilat. Însă, atenție!

De el te întreabă unde-ai să stai

Până mâine ascunsă, scrisoare ferice,

Fă o mișcare cochetă și dă din cap!

Tell Him – it was’nt a Practised Writer –

You guessed – from the way the sentence toiled –

You could hear the Boddice tug, behind you –

As if it held but the might of a child –

You almost pitied it – you – it worked so –

Tell Him – No – you may quibble there –

For it would split His Heart, to know it –

And then you and I, were silenter.

Tell Him – Night finished – before we finished –

And the Old Clock kept neighing „Day”!

And you – got sleepy –

And begged to be ended –

What could it hinder so – to say?

Tell Him – just how she sealed you – Cautious!

But – if He ask where you are hid

Until tomorrow – Happy letter!

Gesture Coquette – and shake your Head!
